Hello,
My family-in-law has a problem: one of their cats (castrated tomcat of about 15 years) has been peeing all over the house for a while now. They have been at the vet's and he diagnosed kidney problems, for which the cat was treated with shots and pills. We suspect that the problem is more or less psychological because the cat sometimes jumps on things on purpose to pee on them (for instance this morning: jumped on the table to pee on the bread rolls: no joke!).
My mother-in-law passed away a month ago and we suspect the cat is mourning. On top of that, a new cat entered the house recently and now, the cat is living with 3 other cats and a dog.
The question is: can we do something about this? How can we help this cat "psychologically"? It's rather urgent since my father-in-law wants to have the cat put to sleep. I think that's a shame since the cat, although old, has no other health problems.

I think you're right. That poor kitty is stressed for sure. His best friend just died, several new cats have moved in along with a dog! He is really telling you how he feels.Try giving him a private room where he is the only pet allowed. Give him a litter box in there and let him adjust to the new living arrangements. Sometimes the vet will prescribe Paxil or another antidepressant. Willie _________________
