Well, we now know why Rumpus was feeling down last week - it seems he had tumours on his spleen and somewhere else inside (poss bowels) and these tumours had nodules.i.e. cancerous.
We found him this morning with swollen abdomen, weak legs and general lethargy, probable dehydration and with tiny poops, so we were thinking blockage. When the vet told us what he could feel we decided that there wasn't much hope and, given the way he was feeling, we decided that it would be best if he was put to sleep.
Its been a shock as we were expecting Biffa to go first, as he has lymphoma.
Rumpus, our first of a pair, reliable, would never bite, loved his tennis balls. He came to us from the RSPCA "ferret man" along with Biffa. They came on our first (and every) Smart car London to Brighton rally, and to other car events where they enjoyed all the attention.
This picture is from when we took them to the beach last Christmas eve. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b95/ferretmummy/DSCF0200.jpg

In a place of rainbows, Rumpus dances and plays. He is smiling, because he left with a heart full of love. Now a new bright star is shining in the night sky. Watch carefully and you'll see him winking. When you feel that unexplained warm feeling in your ear, that's him saying hello. When you feel something brush your ankle, he stopped by to say hi.

Our Quasimodo has surgery recently for just this problem. Fortunately, the location of the tumors was such that it messed up his back legs very early on, so we had plenty of notice to catch it. Also, fortunately, not cancerous.

A hard decision.

Paula, So sorry for your loss. It's always toughest when it's least expected. I lost my Max in a similar way. I took him in for a regular checkup a year ago and a lump was discovered. The vet opened him up but the cancer had spread too far so rather than let him suffer I had them put him to sleep. I will be keeping Rumpus, your business and especially you in my thoughts and prayers.

That's a wonderful to phrase it. I don't have ferrets but I share the joy and pains thru this newsgroup and all the photos. -- -- mejeep deMeep ferret!

Another handsome angel goes to ferret heaven, the land of endless tunnels, bluejeans and shiny wrappers. But I'm sure they keep a lookout for their masters to come and enjoy it with them. Paula wrote:
