Tomorrow night is set to be the first night of my "life with Too". My nervousness is apparent in everything I do......
I spent weeks debating, read all the articles (Googled), listened to the recordings (MyToos), received numerous phone calls from the present owner during screeching sessions ("Are you SURE you're ready for this?"), subscribed to the magazine (Bird Talk), and visited the bird in his current home. I spent an additional week soul-searching to establish the "forever" commitment.
Now the time has come to come to bring him home. I can't help but wonder if I'm doing the right thing. I feel like I'm adopting a child. My life will never be the same.
I've had finches and lovebirds, and currently have budgies and tiels. My husband spent many years of his life with a Timneh. My children all understand that this new bird can easily remove their fingers if he should choose to do so. All of our furniture is disposable, and our house is fairly well-built. I've purchased earplugs, and built a tree stand. We have an appointment with the vet. What more can I do? And yet, I can't seem to rid myself of the tightening in my chest......
He's a good bird, relatively tame, bonded with people, 21 years old, no feather picking or other signs of mental distress, comes from a wonderful home environment, yadda yadda yadda......

My life is set up around them, and I would not even think of being without them. I would not ever have a Too, but if you know what you are getting into they, like all Parrots, make a great pet as long as you do your part. I had some service people here the other day to do some work. 2 of them were very taken with the Macaw. They were amazed at how he would interact with me, he was playing with me, on my shoulder. I told them that yes, if he choose to he could probably take an ear off, but he is not going to do so. Once a Parrot bonds with you it's no different than when they bond with another Parrot. They will return the love you give them for the rest of your life. -- "Everything in excess! To enjoy the flavor of life, take big bites. Moderation is for monks." [Lazarus Long]
