Yesterday, my wife was fooling around with Bacchus, our 18 mos old sable
male. She had a box of "holiday mix", salted nuts and cold cereal chunks.
She gave Bacchus a little piece of rice cheks. He grabbed it and ran under
the couch in his usual hide-the-food routine.

Next she gave him a piece of cheerios. This time he only ran a short
distance and started eating the little crumb. It was obvious he liked it
very much. She gave him another and he ate that one too. I asked her to
stop, since I'm leery of giving him questionable, non meat foods.

So what do you think, are cheerios a suitable snack for ferrets, in
moderation? I notice the Ferretvite he loves so much is largely sugar. I
also wonder about his chicken Bandit snacks and what they might contain.
BTW, his favorite snack is cream and canned milk. I give him about a
teaspoon of each per day in a bowl in the kitchen. - CW

We've been giving our Cheerio's, just as you say (one at a time, and not too
many) for many years. All four of our current group like these, and the two
now gone did a swell. All but one of them also love Corn Pops (a.k.a "Sugar
Pops"), which we're even more stingy with since they're loaded with sugar.
Raisins are very popular as well. They like Raisin Bran cereal too and, rather
to my surprise, don't just pick out the raisins, but eat all of it. All of
this in moderation, as you say. I usually use the term "stingy," (which, to
me, is a step or two below "moderation") but I suspect you're making the same
point.
